Penn Live: Reforming the Pa. probation system: It's time to stop 'paying for failure,' advocates say

A poll by the Justice Action Network shows support for changes in the probation system. Seventy-five percent of Pennsylvanians support probation reform, according to the poll of 500 registered voters. The poll also found 68 percent of Pennsylvanians feel the state’s criminal justice system needs significant reform.

Increasingly, voters are demonstrating broad support for criminal justice reform, regardless of party.

“People are fed up with the system they don’t think is providing adequate protection,” said Jenna Moll, deputy director of the Justice Action Network.

Moll said she is especially enthusiastic about the legislation offering people the chance to reduce their time on probation if they meet the requirements.

“That’s huge,” Moll said. "That condition alone could substantially remake probation in Pennsylvania.”
