Statement on White House Meeting

WASHINGTON, D.C. — At today’s White House Summit, state and federal elected officials, conservative and progressive advocates, and formerly incarcerated individuals packed the room to hear the president and vice president speak in favor of federal criminal justice reform legislation. Executive Director of the Justice Action Network, Holly Harris, issued the following statement:

“The president said exactly what Congress needed to hear today. Acknowledging that partisan politics is still at play in criminal justice reform negotiations, President Trump urged the House and the Senate to get together and get this bill done. It is an historic moment for any president to endorse a piece of criminal justice reform legislation, and we are more hopeful than ever that the right and the left will find consensus, and we can significantly address our broken federal justice system,” said Holly Harris, executive director of the Justice Action Network.”
