Iowa Statewide Survey | July 20 - 22, 2022

Conducted July 20-22, 2022, a poll of 500 registered voters in Iowa showed broad bipartisan support for data-driven criminal justice policy. Among other findings, the poll revealed that there’s a strong sentiment that the federal government should focus more on treatment for drug addicts than prosecuting drug addicts — with nearly three-quarters of respondents saying that the government should provide treatment instead of prosecuting addicts, including 64% of Republicans.

84% of Iowans polled supported getting rid of mandatory minimum sentences for low-level offenses, including 8 in 10 Republicans and Independents.

Independent women led the way in support for the federal EQUAL Act, which would fully resolve the disparity in sentencing between crack and powder cocaine, with 77% support. But they were far from alone, 74% of Iowans surveyed said they supported the legislation, including 7 in 10 people over the age of 65.
